Tell me a little bit about yourself and Emmy Trinh Jewelry

I was born and raised in LA and moved up to the northwest about 11 years ago. Now I live in downtown Vancouver. It was the best decision I ever made. ETJ started out as a passion project. I've always loved jewelry and modern design. I also love the idea that jewelry can elevate an outfit almost instantly.

What made you want to pursue entrepreneurship and designing jewelry?

I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I just never knew what it was that I wanted to pursue. I guess you can say I was waiting for my "aha" moment.

I was in Manhattan on vacation with my friend and ended up in a bead shop. I found this gorgeous agate stone and decided to make a pendant out of it. I didn't know how to make a necklace so I asked the guy that worked there to help me buy what I needed. I went home and made my first necklace. I so many compliments from friends and strangers, it made me wonder if I could turn this into a business. After about a year of research and development, I launched ETJ in October of 2014.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had as an entrepreneur and what advice would you give from this?

The biggest challenge for me was getting into a business I had no experience in. I was never in retail or the jewelry industry. So I had to learn everything. I ended up hiring a coach, but up to that point, I learned everything about starting a business, sourcing, etc. on my own. If I did it again, I would've worked at a local boutique or worked for a jewelry or accessory company to learn the operational aspect of those types of business.

What is next for Emmy Trinh Jewelry?

I want to add some fine pieces to my line. I love gold and precious stones. Maybe even engagement rings someday. I like to dream big :)

What is your favourite piece and why?

There are so many pieces that I love it's hard to just choose one. But if I had to, at the moment, it's the Lovisa Moon in Taurus. I love how versatile it is. I also love the Sol Lariat. Lariats are so casually sexy. I tend to reach for pieces that are transitional and easily layered. I design with that concept in mind. Once I have one on, I tend to wear it for a couple weeks at a time.

Emmy Trinh is the sweetest person and a has amazing pieces for a variety of women! The jewelry can be found here
