Meet the Model, Madi
Nickname: My real name is Madison, a lot of people call me Madi, and every once in a while, my Dad likes to call my sister and I either Pumpkin Head or Chicklet.
Where are you from? I am from Fredericton, NB
Where are you living now? Currently I am living in Calgary, AB
What’s you favourite thing to do: My favourite thing to do is dance! I also love spending time with friends and family, reading, playing soccer, and being at the beach.
How did you feel when you found out you would be the model for the Nora Swimwear ?
I was happy and so excited! I have always loved Nora Swimwear, and most importantly I wanted to support a friend with a local business. I knew it would be lots of fun and a great experience.
Have you modelled before?
Yes. I have mostly done dance modelling; however, I have had the opportunity to do some work outside dance photography and I loved it. I am still learning and will hopefully be doing much more in the future, even though I am a little vertically challenged!
What’s your occupation?
I am currently a dance instructor at three different dance studios in Calgary, a preschool inter-curricular teacher, and the Trip The Light Youth Training Company Coordinator.
When did you first start dancing?
When I was 3. I began with Highland dancing, and then as I got older and realized how passionate I was about dance, I started doing all different styles.
What type of dance do you like the most?
It is so hard to choose which style of dance I love most. I believe that Highland will always be my first love, since it is what made me love dancing in the first place, however jazz and contemporary are what I am most focused on currently.
What do you like most about Nora Swimwear?
I love that Nora Swimwear is not just about the swimsuits, but about empowering the women that wear them. All my experiences with Nora and modelling for Nora has been incredibly positive and about self love. Nora Swimwear to me is about celebrating every women’s unique body and also who they are as people, and that is the type of business that I want to continue to support. Not to mention they have the best-looking swimwear ever!
What’s your mission?
My mission is to work hard, always do my best, be patient, encouraging, and be kind. I believe that every day, your best can change. Some days, your best may seem like very little to some people. But if you always do your best, work hard, and keep trying, no one can ask any more of you. I also believe that our world needs more people to be patient, encouraging of one other, and needs a whole lot more kindness. We need to build each other up, and empower each other, not tear each other down. I may not be able to reach out to everyone every day, but if I can brighten at least one person’s day by being one or all three of these things, then I will have accomplished my mission.
Name something you need to do more often:
I think I need to meditate more and practice mindfulness. I know a lot of people who it really helps them have a clear mind and helps reduce their stress and anxiety. It is important to keep your body healthy, including your mind!
Name a habit you would like to break:
I need to stop leaving my clothes on the floor. In the morning when I am looking for something to wear, I always take a million things out of my drawers and then never take time to put them back. I need to get into the habit of keeping clothes in drawers, and get out of the habit of throwing them everywhere!
Name three things that most people don’t know about you:
I wish I did, but I really dislike sweet potato, it is my least favourite food.
I peed my pants on stage once while competing at a dance competition.
I am terrified of heights, but somehow my boyfriend convinced me to go Bungee jumping in the Swiss Alps, and sky diving in Alberta.
How do you de-stress?
I like to have a hot bath with Epson salts, candles and a good book. It helps take my mind away from anything that is stressing me out and it’s a good way to have some alone time after a busy day.
Tell us about your favourite dance memory
One of my most recent memories, was when my parents were able to fly out to Calgary last year to see me dance in one of my university performances. Having them be able to see me perform at the University where I am achieving my goals, was so wonderful to me. I was so happy that they made it out to see me perform while in the process of working towards my dreams, because I couldn’t be where I am without them.
Where would we find you on a Saturday morning?
You can almost always find me at the dance studio on a Saturday morning, either teaching or rehearsing. It’s often when I teach my little ones, which is a refreshing way to start the weekend. Little ones are full of so much light and honesty, you can’t help but love them.
When do you feel most confident?
I feel most confident when I am surrounded by my loved ones, because around them I can completely be myself without ever being nervous. My family and close friends are so supportive and love me for who I am, and that makes me feel happy and confident.
Where will we find you in your Nora Suit?
At my favourite place in the world; Grand Lake! My family has a cottage on Grand Lake and it is where I will spend the whole day in my Nora Swimsuit, either on the beach or on my Grandfathers sea doo’s. Also, any time I am in PEI! My boyfriend is from there, and they have the best beaches, so perfect for wearing my Nora Swimsuit.
1. Favourite beach town: Grand Lake or Basin Head near Souris, PEI
2. Favourite clothing item to pair with a Nora Swimwear Suit: I will wear my favourite jean shorts, because they are my go to summer clothing item. Whether it is wearing them with one piece out and about, or lounging around the cottage in a bikini.
3. Favourite caffeinated bevy: An Americano with one pump chestnut praline from Starbucks. I was even given a present this year of a personalized reusable Starbucks Cup that says “Miss Madi’s Dance Fuel”, because everyone knows I love Starbucks.
4. Favourite way to spend a Saturday: Either dancing, or being outdoors. I love going to the beach, boating, camping, and hiking.
5. Favourite person you look up to: I look up to my parents as a team. I have always admired their hard work and dedication to whatever they set their minds too.
