Meet the model, Juanita
Nickname: People tend to call me “Juan”, not gonna lie I love it!
Home country: Colombia
Favourite colour: Purple
Describe yourself in one word: Passionate
1. Hey Juanita, tell us about where you’re from!
I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia.
2. When and why did you move to Canada?
I’ve always had an interest to move to Canada! When it was time to pick a University, a friend of mine told me all about it, she talked about Fredericton and how she believed it would be the right choice for me! I finally decided and moved here in 2013! So far, best decision of my life.
3. What were the biggest cultural difference you noticed after you moved?
This is a hard question because I lived in Colombia until the age of 12, after this I moved around to different countries, so Canada was almost like “coming back home” in terms of culture similarities! But the people and the way they interact with one another is definitely a huge difference, as well as the food.
4. What are you doing now, what’s your occupation?
I am a student, currently in my fourth year of University. I'm studying Psychology.
5. What's your dream job?
I want to work with something related to congnitive psychology, I love it and I find it so interesting.
6. Tell us about the best day you’ve had in the last year
Not too long ago I got to see my dad for the first time in a year and a half! Seeing him has probably been my best day this year so far.
7. You’re on your way to your favourite mall, which store do you go to first and what do you buy?
Any shoe store! I love shoes, tall, short, sneakers, heels! I have an appreciation for new trends in shoes and I typically want to give them a try.
8. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever accomplished?
Overcoming mental illness has probably been the hardest thing I’ve accomplished so far. Realizing there is something that is a part of me, that I have little to no control of is hard to accept, but not impossible! It is definitely a constant fight to open up to people and get the help when it’s needed, but having a great support system always makes struggles easier to handle!
9. Who are some powerful women you look up to?
I thought about this answer a lot, and although I can’t say any famous personality, I’m going to say I look up to a few women that have made my life better! Both of my grandmothers, my aunt and my mom are exceptional women and I wish to someday be able to be as happy as they both are these days!
10. What’s your life motto?
Don’t take any moment or person for granted! We experience good and bad things but it’s always good to take the best of it all! Learn from our mistakes, and embrace our successes! We’ve only got one life to live
11. When you’re stressed out, how do you relax?
Find comfort in those who make my days a little better, maybe watch a movie, go for a walk, and definitely stay cozy in bed with a cup of tea!
12. What are three things you can’t live without?
I’m going to say my phone, my little stuffed goat toy (I’m obsessed with goats and sheep) and my journal.
13. What does confidence mean to you?
Being comfortable in your own skin, and with your own values! I think being confident comes from loving every aspect of yourself, even your flaws, and accepting you and who you are.
14. What are some ways we can be kinder towards each other?
Accept one another as we are! Build each other up and see the good in everyone!
