Nickname: Everyone calls me Nico!
Pick a sports team: The only time you’ll see me watching sports is when I’m drinking beer with the guys. Or, the Olympics is on.
Number of countries visited: 15
Describe yourself in one word: Driven
1. Hey Nicoletta, where are you and what are you studying in school!
I’m in my third year of Public Relations at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. But, for the last two months I’ve been in Vienna, Austria studying. In Vienna, I’m mainly just picking up elective courses centred around communications.
2. Why did you decide to study abroad?
From a young age, I had a bucket list dream that studying in another country was something I had to do. I like to do things that challenge me and I think moving to another country is a challenge I was ready to take on at 20.
3. Where are you in Austria, and what’s the city like?
I’m studying in Vienna, which is the capital city of Austria. Vienna is absolutely stunning! The city is very lively with some of the most beautiful architecture. Most importantly, Vienna has the best public transportation I’ve experienced - which makes it very easy to get around the city. You’ll find endless museums, cafes, pubs and clubs.
4. Tell us what a typical weekend looks like for you these days
You can probably find me either on a plane, bus or train on the weekend. Traveling is so inexpensive in Europe, so I make the most of it by spending my weekends in new places.
5. Name three differences between Austria and Canada
You have to pay for ketchup at McDonalds :(
Bars and clubs are open until 4 a.m. or when everyone decides to leave
School is way easier
6. Tell us about your favourite country you’ve visited so far, and why!
I’ve been to so many beautiful places, but I think Ireland is my favourite country. Not only is it a breathtaking with its landscape, but the people are so kind. I always say that it is the people that make my visits to other countries the most memorable. Ireland truly has some of the funniest, kindhearted people!
7. What are you plans after school?
As of right now I would say my plan is to move to Europe for a few years. Eventually, I would love to get my masters and start my own business.
8. Who are some powerful women you look up to?
I have four powerful women that I look up to every single day. My mother, sister and both of my grandmothers. These four women have helped shape me into the women I am today. They are the most selfless people I know and have helped build the foundation of my morals and values that I live by everyday. They continue to challenge my thoughts and opinions in order to open my mind up to greater things.
9. Some women think it’s harder to make friends when you’re older. Give us some advice on how to make friends today
My parents have always told me: “live everyday doing what you love to do and that is when you’ll meet the people that are meant to be in your life.” I think that is the advice I would give not just to women, but everyone. It is never too late to make friends.
10. What are some ways women can empower each other?
Celebrate the success of women around you! I think when women remove the feeling of jealousy they have toward other women then they can really empower each other. It is honestly so much easier to spread kindness then it is to spread hate.
Everyday make it a goal to give out at least one genuine compliment to another woman around you, without expecting a compliment in return.
11. What are three things you’re looking forward to when you come back to Canada?
An ice cap from Tim Hortons!!!!
My grandmother's blueberry pie
Lots of kisses from my doggy
12. Where do you feel most comfortable?
Definitely at home with my family.
13. What are you looking forward to the most this year?
Continuing to grow as an individual and explore the world! 2017 has already been a life changing year for me. Going on an exchange has really opened my eyes up to everything the world has to offer. As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve realized it is never too late to turn your dreams into reality. For the rest of 2017 I’m looking forward to continuing to chase my dreams.
