As a central value to Nora Swimwear, the blog will be used weekly to feature and celebrate women who are doing something they are proud of.

This week is Rebecca – a 23-year-old girl boss who’s created an online platform to empower woman. Rebecca has written for MTL BlogElite Daily, and is the founder of Goss Club.

Tell us about yourself and what you do!

I’m 23 years old and I’m just getting started. Born and raised in Montreal but my heart resides in Shanghai. From Romanian and Moroccan background, graduated from McGill University in Public Relations/Marketing and Founder of Goss Club. I call myself a qualitative storyteller because everything I’ve written about, I’ve experienced. I’m also a HUGE Adrenaline Junkie.

When and how did you start writing?

I’ve been writing my whole life! I used to keep journals when I was younger and eventually they turned into poems, short stories and now I’m working on my very first Novel.

I never thought of writing as a career until I applied to MTL Blog. Working there has improved my skills immensely as a writer and reporter. But then I wanted something more, where we could influence others...That was the birth of Goss Club.

What is Goss Club?

Goss Club is an international women’s movement made to inspire and empower girl bosses. What that means is we have built a platform with all the resources for women to become a #GIRLBOSS. From relationship advice, feature articles, DIY and plenty more interactions, we want Goss Club to be the IT online platform for women worldwide.

How did you come up with the concept for Goss Club? Why did you start it?

I was working at MTL Blog when I noticed there was a huge need in the market for an online platform for women. This whole “girl boss” “boss babe” “be a boss” concept happened in the last year and it blew up. I started to brainstorm the idea of an online magazine catered to these girl bosses. It would be an exclusive membership club for women. A place where we can all connect, and as the saying goes: Stay Gossy.

How did you get to where you are today?

I am extremely persistent. I never give up on what I want. If I have an idea in my head, and I can picture it clearly, I won’t stop until I get there. I don’t listen to other’s opinions, and I never get scared of failing. Everything is a learning experience and what I’ve done to this point has taught me more about myself than anything.

What helps you work?

To get in my zone, I need to be in a quiet environment. (In my office preferably, without a sound, with my laptop and scrambles of papers around me. (I’m old school and love to write drafts on paper first!)) I also find going for a jog before I sit down to do work helps clear my mind.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment so far?

To be recognized for my writing. I’ve had people come up to me that I’ve never seen before saying: I love your articles! Or, you’re an inspiration. That’s what keeps me going.

Knowing that I have touched people and that they can relate to my writing is an indescribable feeling. Also watching my articles go viral (reaching over 100k shares) was a pretty big accomplishment for me.

What’s it like being a girl boss?

It’s something inside of you that I believe every woman has. It’s the need to make a difference, to take matters into your own hands, to be powerful, strong and confident. To exert this positive energy out into the world. Us women have so much to give, we need to start giving!

What's it like being in charge of people?

I’ve always been a leader, whether at my job, in school or with friends. I like taking matters into my own hand but I never do it forcefully or in a controlling way. I prefer to see others around me in charge, and to be behind the scenes, helping them get there. If you need my advice, I’m here. That’s how I work with my team.

What’s your ultimate goal for the company?

I want Goss Club to be International. I want us to touch women’s lives all over the world - in different ways. Ultimately the goal for Goss Club is to start a a movement of Girl Bosses that will run the world! Let’s teach women to be independent, strong and feel this connection that we are all in this together.
